Fulbright Thailand

2017-2018 English Teaching Assistant (ETA)

U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program

Below are highlights from my grant year, which heavily influenced my personal growth and decision to pursue a career in international education.  In the three months following, I also worked as a temporary program coordinator for the Fulbright Thailand Commission.

Strengthening ASEAN Through Youth Cultural Exchange

Thai | Malay |U.S. American Cross-Cultural Exchange Camp

In collaboration with a Fulbright Malaysia ETA, we organized a cross-cultural exchange camp for our students in Thasala, Nakhon Si Thammarat Thailand.  During the camp, students and volunteers tried different foods, showcased traditional dances and clothing, engaged in English language and art activities, and contributed to a pop-up museum display.

U.S. Fulbright grantees placed in Thailand and Malaysia volunteered alongside school staff from Rachaprachanugroh 8 School in Nakhon Si Thammarat and SMK Kuala Perlis School.  Crowdfunding and grants were used to conduct this event.

Kasetsart University, Kampaeng Saen Campus

Center for Agricultural Biotechnology (CAB)

For the internship component of my grant year, I chose to volunteer as an English teacher and tutor for graduate students at Kasetsart University's CAB.  I assisted undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in the fields of plant and animal science with academic English and thesis editing.  In my free time I also took ceramic classes with a local artist in Kampaeng Saen.

English Teaching Assistantship at Rachaprachanugroh 8

From September 2017-2018, I worked at Rachaprachanugroh 8, a K-8 public school in Thasala, Nakhon Si Thammarat.  There, I taught 15 sections of grade levels 1-8 to focus on cross-cultural understanding and conversational English skills.

In addition to teaching at Rach. 8 School, I volunteered at 4 English camps in three different Thai provinces, in which I collaborated with Thai and fellow American faculty to facilitate English language activities for students.

On weekends I often spent time building my skills in ceramics at a local studio, Nakhon Art Space, in Nakhon Si Thammarat city.
